Dr. Z.S. Meharwal is a renowned and highly experienced cardiac surgeon with over 30 years in the field. He is the Executive Director & Head of Adult Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation & VAD Program at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. As one of the founding team members of the institute, he has contributed immensely to advancing cardiac surgery in India.

Dr. Meharwal is a pioneer in new cardiac procedures and has been actively involved in teaching and training future cardiac surgeons. He serves as the Programme Director of DNB Cardiothoracic Surgery at Fortis Escorts and has trained numerous cardiac surgeons who are now independent experts worldwide.

He is a sought-after faculty member at national and international conferences and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Meharwal has received multiple prestigious awards, including the President’s Award for contributions to cardiac surgery. In 2002, he was honored with a Citation Award by the President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, at the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Meeting. Additionally, he was awarded the Saharanpur Aditya Samman by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2005.

Dr. Meharwal made history by performing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery on a 94-year-old patient, earning him a place in the Limca Book of Records (2008). He is an esteemed member of professional organizations, including the Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeons, Cardiological Society of India, and the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.
