Dr. Vivek Vij

Dr. Vivek Vij is a highly renowned liver transplant surgeon in India, recognized for his exceptional expertise in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary sciences. Currently, he is the Director of the Department of Liver Transplantation & Gastrointestinal Surgery at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram.

With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Vij has established himself as a leader in liver transplant surgery, having successfully performed over 2750 liver transplants with one of the lowest biliary complication rates (<4%) worldwide. He was also the first Indian liver surgeon to publish a series of laparoscopic donor hepatectomies in the prestigious journal Liver Transplantation.

His contributions to the field have been recognized internationally, including a special award from the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) in Chicago (2015). He is also the youngest liver transplant surgeon in India to have completed 1000 independent liver transplants.

Dr. Vij has trained in prestigious institutions, including the University of Alabama, USA, where he was the only candidate from India selected for the Roche Preceptorship Training Program in Liver Transplantation (2006). He has also been honored by the Ministry of Health, Mongolia, for his contributions to liver transplant surgery.
