Dr. Sunil R. Morekar

Dr. Sunil R. Morekar is a highly respected ophthalmologist with more than 30 years of clinical and surgical experience, currently associated with Fortis Hiranandani Hospital in Navi Mumbai. He completed his MBBS from the prestigious King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, followed by MS in Ophthalmology from Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. He further enriched his expertise by completing Eye Banking Training at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.

Dr. Morekar is renowned for his specialization in Oculoplastic Surgery, Glaucoma, Neuro-ophthalmology, Pediatric Oculoplasty, and Complex Squint Surgeries. He is credited with pioneering Corneal Reinnervation Surgery in India, a revolutionary procedure to restore eyesight using nerves from the leg. He has presented this technique at international ophthalmology congresses across Mexico, Spain, and South Africa, and has lectured in over ten countries.

Throughout his career, he has performed over 20,000 eye surgeries and consulted over 500,000 patients, many of them under free initiatives. Dr. Morekar has also trained more than 100 ophthalmologists and contributed extensively to medical literature with over 60 textbook chapters. He co-authored international guidelines on Diabetic Eye Care now adopted in over 23 countries.
