Her initiatives include the "12 by 12" program aimed at preventing adolescent anemia to promote a healthier pregnancy. She has also played a crucial role in adapting and indigenizing WHO’s Medical Eligibility Criteria Wheel and in the development of Minimum Standards for Mother-Baby Friendly care.

Dr. Mittal has held prestigious positions, including Professor & Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Program Director for Postpartum Programs at AIIMS, and Director-in-Charge of WHO-CCR in Human Reproduction.
