Dr. Sandeep Attawar is a renowned heart and lung transplant surgeon and currently serves as Founder Director & Chair of the Advanced Heart Failure, Terminal Lung Disease & Solid Thoracic Organ Transplant Program at KIMS Institute of Heart, Lung Transplantation & Assist Devices, Hyderabad. He is also the Chief Surgeon for Thoracic Organ Transplantation at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram. With over 24 years in cardiothoracic surgery, he has specialized in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support since 2011.

Dr. Attawar has been instrumental in establishing heart and lung transplant programs across India, performing over 630 thoracic organ transplants (448 double lung, 125 heart, 57 heart-lung) and 50+ LVAD implants, including 29 double lung transplants for end-stage COVID-19 patients, one of the largest series globally. He has managed complex cardiac cases across all age groups at leading institutes nationwide. Beyond clinical practice, he actively supports NGOs like the Being Human Foundation, providing free cardiac surgeries for children, and conducts research to improve care for premature infants with heart disorders. A global authority in thoracic transplantation, Dr. Attawar has contributed to lung transplant consensus guidelines and serves as a scientific advisor for India’s first indigenous MAGLEV LVAD, Hridayantra. As a proctor for JARVIK HEART and HeartMate III, he ensures access to advanced cardiac care.
