Dr. Ramakant Krishnaji Deshpande is a distinguished surgical oncologist with over four decades of experience in the field. He completed his MBBS from Karnataka Medical College, Hubli, and pursued his MS at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Further honing his expertise, Dr. Deshpande underwent advanced training at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Deshpande has held pivotal roles in renowned institutions. He began at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in 1982 and later served as the Chief of Thoracic Services at Tata Memorial Hospital until 2002. Currently, he is the Executive Chairman of the Asian Institute of Oncology and a Consultant in the Department of Surgical Oncology at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.
Recognized as a pioneer in thoracoscopic surgery in India, Dr. Deshpande has significantly advanced minimally invasive techniques for thoracic tumors. His clinical interests encompass thoracic tumors, breast cancer, and pediatric cancers. In acknowledgment of his contributions to medicine, he was honored with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India in 2014.
