Dr. Maheboob Mahamud Basade is a highly experienced and renowned Senior Consultant in the Department of Medical Oncology at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre. With over 28 years of experience, Dr. Basade is an expert in medical and pediatric oncology, specializing in chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hematological and non-hematological malignancies. He has played a crucial role in establishing the stem cell transplantation unit at Jaslok Hospital.
Dr. Basade holds an MD and a European Certification in Medical Oncology. His extensive training includes international fellowships at prestigious institutions such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (USA), The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Centre (USA), and The Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital (UK). He was among the top three oncologists selected globally for the Young Medical Oncologist Fellowship by the European Society of Medical Oncology in Paris, France.
Previously, he served as the Head of Medical and Pediatric Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre Rural Cancer Project and Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Hospital, where he pioneered bone marrow transplantation and peripheral stem cell transplantation units. Dr. Basade has also been actively involved in research, serving as a Principal Investigator for various clinical trials, particularly in the development of new cancer treatments. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Basade is a recognized teacher for DNB Medical Oncology and represents the India/Pakistan/Bangladesh region on the board of the European Society of Medical Oncology. He is also an executive member of the Indian Society of Medical and Pediatric Oncology and a member of esteemed organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Chapter of the Indian Association of Pediatricians.
Dr. Basade has achieved several milestones in the field of oncology, including performing India's first unrelated umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation in Thalassemia Major, Asia’s first unrelated cord blood stem cell transplantation for Krabbe’s disease and India's first bone marrow stem cell transplantation for sickle cell disease. He has also been a pioneer in implementing peripheral stem cell transplantation for chronic myeloid leukemia in India.
