Dr. Joy Desai

Dr. Joy Desai is a highly esteemed neurologist and the Director of the Department of Neurology at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. With over two decades of experience, he is recognized for his expertise in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology and neurological disorders.

After obtaining his MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine from BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad—where he earned three gold medals—Dr. Desai pursued a DNB in Neurology at Jaslok Hospital. He further honed his expertise with a three-year fellowship in Clinical Neurology at The Royal London Hospital, UK, followed by a specialized training program in Epileptology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA, where he excelled in his examinations.

Since 2000, Dr. Desai has been leading the weekly Epilepsy Clinic at Jaslok Hospital, where he evaluates and manages patients with refractory epilepsy, offering advanced treatment options including epilepsy surgery. Under his supervision, over 90 epilepsy surgeries have been performed, with thousands of patients benefiting from his expertise in anti-epileptic drug optimization. He is also actively involved in video-EEG evaluations and collaborates with multiple neurophysiology and neurosurgery departments for comprehensive epilepsy treatment.

Dr. Desai is a well-regarded researcher with multiple published papers on neurological disorders, including epilepsy, movement disorders and immune-related neurological conditions. He has presented at national and international conferences and serves as the Secretary of the Mumbai Epilepsy Association.
