Overview:

Dr. Gourab Sen is a highly experienced Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeon with a distinguished international background in HPB surgery, liver transplantation, pancreatic surgery, biliary reconstruction, and minimally invasive robotic surgery. He currently practises at Medcare Hospital – Sharjah and Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital, where he manages a wide spectrum of complex liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and pancreatic disorders.

He completed his MBBS and MS from the University of Calcutta, followed by a research MD from Newcastle University, UK. He then underwent higher surgical training in the UK and earned CCT from the Royal College of Surgeons, along with FRCS qualifications and a Diploma from the European Society of Organ Transplantation (HESPERIS). This strong academic and surgical foundation has helped shape his expertise in advanced hepatobiliary and transplant procedures.

Over a career of more than two decades, Dr. Sen has built deep expertise in liver transplantation, pancreatic tumour surgery, treatment of benign and malignant liver lesions, surgery for gallbladder disease, and reconstruction for biliary injuries. He has performed more than 450 liver transplants and is also experienced in kidney and pancreas transplantation. During his time in the UK, he served as a Consultant HPB Surgeon and Clinical Lead, where he helped lead multidisciplinary teams managing liver, biliary, and pancreatic cancers as well as difficult benign biliary conditions.

Dr. Sen is also a certified robotic surgeon with experience performing complex robotic liver and pancreatic resections for malignancy using the Da Vinci Xi platform. His surgical approach emphasizes precision, smaller incisions, and improved recovery for suitable patients. In the UAE, he has also served as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Gulf Medical University, Ajman, reflecting his contribution to academic surgery and medical education.
