Dr. Dhiren Shah

Dr. Dhiren Shah is a highly respected and pioneering cardiac surgeon with more than 22 years of experience in the field of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. He currently serves as Director of the Heart-Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Programme at Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad. With over 13,000 open-heart surgeries and 46 successful heart transplants to his name, Dr. Shah is renowned for his precision, leadership, and contributions to cardiac healthcare in India.

He was the first in India to perform Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and also the first in Gujarat to successfully perform a heart transplant. Dr. Shah was also the first in the country to perform Hybrid CABG surgery, showcasing his dedication to adopting and pioneering advanced techniques in cardiac care.

He has trained internationally, with observerships and fellowships in renowned institutions such as UPMC Pittsburgh, Leipzig Heart Institute (Germany), and Alain Carpentier Foundation Hospital (Vietnam). He is an esteemed member of the Workforce Committee for the Ministry of Health (Government of India) and ICMR for national cardiac surgery guidelines. He also plays an advisory role for the Government of Gujarat in forming transplant programs.

His specialties include adult cardiac surgeries, valve repairs, complex and minimally invasive cardiac procedures, TAVI, and TAVAR. He has also been part of India’s pioneering team in Surgical Ventricular Restoration and Heart Failure Surgery.
